I have always loved collage. To me, collage is a form of extremely fun art, in which the artist doesn't really know the end result, and I love the mystery of that. So I enjoyed that aspect of the project, because a lot of the assignment, for a lot of people, involved collage. I didn't really have a concrete plan, and that was very gratifying. But I also learned from this project that design is important in any artwork, including even collage, which I have previously looked upon as a very "loose" form of art.
For next time, if there is one, I would suggest to find a way to have the students get more invested in the project, because so many weren't this time around. But for so many people who are so different, there's always going to be a group that can't or won't get involved. Maybe the guidelines could be more transparent; the size of the pieces can be anything, all found objects can be used, not just junkmail.
I, honestly, am not sure of how I would tweak my own personal project. While I am happy with the end result and have learned something from the work, I feel a kind of detachment from the piece. Maybe, instead of feeling a connection with the work, I could use it as a jumping block for more of my work.
